Davco Office Building

The owners of Davco Welding Ltd. are no strangers to geothermal heating and cooling. Having owned and maintained several geothermal buildings over the years (including their current office building which has been running maintenance free for 11 years), the choice was easy when it came time to design their new office building. The new office building features a 21 borehole geothermal heating and cooling system along with a dual-core energy recover ventilator that will recover up to 90% of the energy from warm exhaust air and pass it to the cold fresh air. The two storey office building will be heated and cooled using 3 forced air heat pumps located in the basement.

The geothermal system will not only reduce the building's energy consumption by over 70% but will also have an attractive payback partly thanks to the accelerated capital cost allowance (see our Geothermal FAQ) which allows the owners to depreciate both the ground heat exchanger as well as the building equipment at a rate of 50% per year.
